Lumbarda is a small and picturesque place of 1300 residents, the second most populated Adriatic island after Krk. There is a long tradition of agriculture, fishery (it is surrounded on three sides with the sea) and masonry in the near by quarries. However today tourism is dominant.

Life began here in ancient times and franticly searched for its historic continuity in harmony with its natural surroundings. In the 3 rd century before Christ a Greek colony was formed and psefizam, one of the oldest written documents in Croatia was made.

During its evolutionary process, strength and endurance was needed to survive, while being aware of the lasting beauty of this territory, healthy climate and the universal strength of the sea.

After the fall of the Venetian Republic in 1797, Korcula came under the Austrian ruling.

Nine years after she was occupied by the Napoleon army.

Korcula's strategic position attracted even the Russian fleet, which in 1806 forced the French to withdraw. After two months, the French secretly landed right here in this cove, Lumbarajsko Racisce, and took over the town without a fight (resistance). Year 1813 the English victoriously entered Korcula after Napoleon left and they ruled until 1815.Under the commandment of Peter Lowen, this short period left a very important architectural trace. The west side of the town was built, the half circular area with stone seating on the way to Lumbarda and the large, round fortress on the hill of St.Blaze (St.Vlaho) above the town.

Following the Berlin Congress, England in 9.7.1815 surrendered Korcula to Austria.

As a tourist destination, one of the biggest advantages of this area is the clean quality of the air as well as sea that surrounds it. Depth visibility of the sea is about 21m (68ft)

The island is full of beautiful nature that is worth exploring and walking is the best way to experience it. Comfortable shoes, drinking water and camera are recommended.

Different sorts of trees and plants are decorating the island and because of its density the Greeks called it Korkyra Melaina ( "black Korcula")

Walking trails that you can find on the map are all over the island.

Our favorite walks are through the vineyards, where there is less car traffic.

The longest trail is the one from the center of Lumbarda towards the East, all the way to the sandy beach Przina (2km- 1.2miles from the house), and the Raznjic point (2.5km -1.5miles).

You will walk the narrow asphalt road amongst vineyards till you reach an old church and a roman villa rustica-e.

Since the 16.century wealthier Korcula residents would build summer houses here and some are still well preserved to this day.
